Our business, The Purple Moon, began over a decade ago as entirely an eBay business. We were collectors and saw online auctions as a great way to buy, sell and trade with other collectors. Within no time though we had several rooms dedicated to selling online and from there soon expanded to our first storefront in downtown Charleston, WV. After several years at that location we continued to grow and moved to our current, and much larger, location in 2008.
Making the switch from online auction-style sales to retail sales took some adjustment and particularly increased the amount of time required to locate and acquire quality vintage items. We also launched our own e-commerce site for our mid-century modern items and utilized social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to expand our reach into the collector market. The Just a Modern Guy blog we operate has been a great tool to share information about 20th Century design, art and architecture as well as to highlight newly arrived pieces at The Purple Moon.
Many of our eBay customers over the years have visited our store, our blog and our other websites and it has been a pleasure to get to know them. It recently dawned on us though that we really hadn’t done for our online auction listings what we have been doing for the other parts of The Purple Moon by giving them an online “home” where we can feature current listings, give more details and background (like informational links to similar or related items and thier history – something eBay prohibits in their listings) and even preview items before they are listed. We see this as an opportunity to continue and enhance our high level of quality and customer service.
Thus, this new blog. We are sure that like every aspect of The Purple Moon it will evolve. We hope you let us no what think as it does.
